Sign up today for National Night Out – Tuesday, October 4!
Caring residents throughout the city are signing up for National Night Out – and you can too!
Block parties held during the annual event bring neighbors together and help build the type of positive relationships that provide the foundation for stronger communities. When neighbors know and care about each other, neighborhoods become safer, more caring places.
This year’s National Night Out will be on Tuesday, Oct. 4.
Shreveport Police Chief Wayne Smith said that National Night Out events also help to build strong, trusting relationships between local law enforcement and residents.
“I’ve always believed in the relationships within our city. Not only with just the police department, but with neighbors themselves. We are one big community. We are team Shreveport. Together we make a difference,” Smith said.
Barbara Zaffater has helped with several block parties in her neighborhood in South Shreveport.
“Since getting involved with Community Renewal I have been so blessed. After having block parties in my neighborhood, I got to meet more neighbors and now after being involved for over 10 years, I practically know everyone in my neighborhood. It’s so wonderful to be a part of something that helps me to be intentional about loving my neighbors.”
Nashawna Joseph says the impact of National Night Out goes far beyond one block party.
I think of genuine connection as a cure to the troubles we face in our neighborhoods,” Nashawna said. “When you really speak to the heart of people and share their concerns as well as their stories through authentic connection, it’s a game changer because you create a recipe for lasting positive results affecting everyone involved.
“Connection makes such a huge difference because this opens the doors to turning the obstacles we face into opportunities for growth and more community engagement, and this is what is necessary to continue changing lives and the world we live in.”
